Cloud Nexus
Top Secret — Internal Strategy

Location Property Consolidation Strategy

How Cloud Nexus will absorb 23 legacy city domains and unify SEO authority under one powerful brand.

The Current State

We currently operate 23 city-specific domains (salesforceraleigh.com, salesforceboston.com, etc.) built and optimized over years. Each has:

  • Years of organic search ranking equity
  • Backlink profiles and domain authority
  • Existing traffic from Google and Bing
  • Brand presence in local markets
  • Scattered SEO power across multiple properties

The Consolidation Vision

Instead of maintaining 23 separate properties, we're migrating all city-specific domains to permanent 301 redirects pointing to cloudnexus.ai.

salesforceraleigh.com → 301 redirect → cloudnexus.ai/salesforce_consulting_raleigh

This approach tells Google: "All the authority and ranking power of the old domain transfers to the new destination." It's the gold standard for domain consolidation.

Unified Brand Authority

All 23 domains' SEO power consolidates into one cloudnexus.ai property—dramatically stronger than scattered domains.

Organic Traffic Multiplier

Existing traffic from 23 city domains automatically redirects to Cloud Nexus. Instant traffic boost with zero additional spend.

Easier Maintenance

One site to manage. One analytics property. One CRM integration. No fragmented systems, no duplicate work.

Better Site Structure

Nested city pages (/salesforce_consulting_[city]) are cleaner, more discoverable, and better for SEO hierarchy.

How It Works: Technical Implementation

1

301 Redirects Configured

Each legacy domain (e.g., salesforceboston.com) gets a permanent 301 redirect set at the DNS/hosting level to its corresponding page on cloudnexus.ai.

2

Search Engines Process Redirects

Google, Bing, and other search engines crawl the redirect chain and understand: "This domain moved here." They update their index accordingly over 4–8 weeks.

3

Authority Transfer

The ranking power, backlink equity, and domain authority from the old domain flow to the new URL. Rankings may temporarily drop, then stabilize higher once consolidation completes.

4

Traffic Consolidation

All organic traffic from 23 city domains now arrives at cloudnexus.ai. User experience is seamless—they land on the right city page automatically.

5

Unified Analytics

All traffic funnels into one Google Analytics property, one Salesforce lead capture form, one dashboard. Better visibility, better decision-making.

Technical SEO Specifications

Canonicals & hreflang Tags

  • ✓New city pages: Self-canonical required (e.g., cloudnexus.ai/salesforce-consulting-boston points to itself)
  • ✓Old legacy domains: No canonicals during redirect (can confuse crawlers). Let the 301 do the work.
  • ✓hreflang tags: All US English. No country-specific variants needed. Omit hreflang to keep consolidation simple.

Redirect Rules & Edge Cases

  • →Query strings: Drop intentionally (e.g., ?utm_source=google is legacy tracking). New URLs are clean.
  • →Trailing slashes: Normalize all to forward slash. salesforceboston.com/services and /services/ both → cloudnexus.ai/salesforce-consulting-boston/
  • →Case sensitivity: URLs are case-insensitive for HTTP. Standardize to lowercase.
  • →Legacy 404 URLs: If old links still exist in backlinks, identify intent and map them. Use 410 (Gone) for true orphans.
  • →Single-hop only: No redirect chains. Every old URL should 301 directly to new destination in one hop.

Sitemap Strategy

  • 📄Legacy domains: Keep final XML sitemap on each old domain listing all legacy URLs. Even though they redirect, this accelerates search engine processing of the redirect chain.
  • 📄cloudnexus.ai: Update main sitemap to include all 22 new city pages. Submit to Google Search Console.

Content QA Checklist (Before Redirect Launch)

Each city page must pass this QA gate before we go live with redirects:

Unique city-specific proof block

Client work, testimonials, or case studies specific to that city

Unique FAQ set

At least 5 FAQs addressing city-specific challenges or local context

Unique intro paragraph

Not duplicated from another city page. Speaks to local market.

Unique internal links

Links to relevant case studies, industry pages, and service subpages from this city's context

No title/H1 cannibalization

Each city page title and H1 is distinct. Not near-duplicate of other cities.

Indexable

No noindex tag. Robots.txt allows crawling. Return 200 OK.

Mobile friendly

Responsive design confirmed on mobile devices

Fast load time

Page speed > 50 on mobile (Lighthouse basic check)

Analytics & Monitoring Setup

GA4 Continuity Checks

  • 1.Verify GA4 property captures traffic from both old and new domains during transition
  • 2.Confirm conversion events (form submissions, CTA clicks) are tracked on new city pages
  • 3.Add annotation on migration launch date so you can correlate traffic/ranking volatility
  • 4.Track conversions by city — ensure leads still flow from city pages at expected rates

Search Console Monitoring

  • →Add new cloudnexus.ai city pages to Google Search Console
  • →Monitor for redirect errors (5xx, timeout, too many redirects)
  • →Track indexation status of new pages week-by-week

Success Metrics & Timeline

Week 1–2: Setup & Launch

  • ✓ Set up 301 redirects on all 22 domains
  • ✓ Confirm indexable status of new city pages (no noindex, robots allow)
  • ✓ Monitor for redirect errors and 4xx/5xx responses
  • ✓ Analytics: confirm traffic flowing to new pages

Week 3–6: Consolidation & Stabilization

  • → Search engines process and transfer ranking authority
  • → Monitor for duplicate canonicals or redirect chains (fix immediately)
  • → Early warning window: If rankings haven't started stabilizing by Week 4, investigate: thin content, incorrect redirect mapping, or canonical issues
  • → Track conversion rates—should remain stable or improve

Week 6–12: Recovery & Optimization

  • → City keyword rankings recover to baseline or better
  • → Organic traffic from consolidated domains stable
  • → Begin backlink reclamation (reach out to sites linking to old domains)
  • → Optimize underperforming city pages with new content / unique proof

⚠️ Red flags: If rankings don't stabilize by Week 6, investigate thin/duplicate destinations, incorrect redirect targeting, or internal link/canonical problems.

QA Checklist Per City

Unique content proof, indexability, mobile, performance, uniqueness validation

Weekly Monitoring Report

Traffic, indexation, errors, rankings, conversions—tracked for 8–12 weeks post-launch

Note: We're building an internal "SEO Migration Manager" app (powered by Base44) to automate this tracking, QA checklist generation, and weekly monitoring reports. This will centralize all migration data, reduce manual work, and provide visibility across the entire 22-city consolidation.

  • One strong brand (cloudnexus.ai) is easier to defend and grow than 23 separate domains
  • New city pages get massive authority boost from legacy domain traffic
  • We retain all the market-specific SEO work we've invested in over years
  • Future city expansions inherit the consolidated authority—faster to rank
  • Visitors searching for "Salesforce consulting [city]" land directly on our main site—better conversion funnel
